John L. Keating, 92, of 250 South Street, died Tuesday, November 11, 2003, at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA. He was born in Washington, NJ, on June 5, 1911, a son of John A. Keating and Katherine (Bollerman) Keating and lived most of his life in New York City and Long Island. He attended Mount Hermon Academy and graduated from New York University.
A disabled World War II veteran and member of The Commanders Club, he served many years as a New York City fireman. He also worked as a teacher in the New York City School System.
He and his wife, Barbara, were world travelers who sailed their yacht solo across the Atlantic and spent many years cruising in the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. They also traveled extensively in Mexico, South America and the Pacific.
Before moving to Ware several years ago, they summered in Northfield, MA and wintered in Quartzsite, AZ.
John leaves his wife, Barbara (Bramble) Keating of Quaboag on the Common,West Brookfield, MA; a sister, Jane Barry of Knoxville, Tennessee; a brother-in-law, Dwight Bramble, MD and his wife Jeanettte of Ware, MA; a niece,Wendy Lavallee and husband Vincent Catania of Boston, MA; three nephews, Douglas Bramble and wife, Lorraine of Alstead, NH, Dwight Bramble, MD and wife Andrea Dodge of Cambridge, MA and Mark Bramble of Cambridge, MA.
Memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to Quaboag on the Common Nursing Home, West Brookfield, MA.
