Millie Whitney

Millicent Aylsworth Whitney, 89, of Newtown, Pennsylvania, died on Saturday, February 3, 2007, at the Hospice at Chandler Hall in Newtown.

Born in Montclair, NJ and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Mrs. Whitley considered Essex, Connecticut to be her home. Earlier she lived in Middleton, Wisconsin ; Bromont, Quebec and Burlington, Ontario. She and her husband, William S. Whitney, moved to Bucks County, Pennsylvania 3 years ago. Mrs. Whitney enjoyed community activities that centered on children and young people. She was a member and past president of the Essex, PTA; volunteered at the Head Start Program in Canada and worked with the Women’s Exchange at the Old Lyme Art Academy in Old Lyme, CT. She was also active with the Essex Yacht Club and the Junior League in Detroit.

As a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Essex , Mrs. Whitney served on the Altar Guild. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she especially treasured her time with her family.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years William Starkey Whitney; her children Larned Starkey Whitney III of Benecia, CA; Robert Aylsworth Whitney of New Hope, PA; Timothy Tobin Whitney of Flagstaff, AZ and Anne Whitney Yarnall of New Hope; her 6 grandchildren and her brother Robert Doty Aylsworth of Phoenix, AZ.
