New London, NH – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marybelle C. Chapin who died with family by her side on Sunday, April 7th, 2024. She was 90 years old and lived a full, happy and healthy life.
Marybelle was born in New York City to Mabelle J. and Frederic C. Carruth. She attended Northfield School for Girls, Bates College and graduated from Cornell School of Nursing.
In 1954, Marybelle married her sweetheart and Northfield School summer “bus boy”, R. Hoyt Chapin. In the ensuing years, Marybelle and Hoyt welcomed Sarah, Deborah and Walter into their lives with great love, joy and deep devotion. Her children remember her as a loving, patient, kind, independent, and generous mother who encouraged them and supported them in all their endeavors.
Marybelle is predeceased by her loving husband of sixty years, R. Hoyt Chapin. Surviving family members include children Sarah, Deborah and Walter (Christine); grandchildren Thalia Neebe, Benjamin, Alexander (Jacquelyn) and great grandson, Breck Chapin.
While born a city girl, Marybelle was happiest in New London where she particularly enjoyed the magnificent sunsets over Little Lake Sunapee. In her final year, Marybelle lived a busy life at Woodcrest Village where the community of neighbors and new friends showed her great kindness and in turn, she responded with a bright smile and a sense of humor. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the Woodcrest Village staff for their loving care, respect for and support of Marybelle.
A celebration of life will be held this summer in beautiful New London, NH, to honor and memorialize a life well-lived.
